How we help

It’s simple. We sue landlords.

🏚️

Uninhabitable conditions

Mold, broken appliances, leaks, pests, plumbing issues, no heat, and more. California law requires a habitable home — we hold landlords to it.

🚫

Wrongful eviction & lockouts

Illegal lockouts, utility shut-offs, self-help evictions, and bad-faith ‘cash for keys.’ When a landlord forces you out illegally, we sue them for the money you’re owed.

🔊

Sexual harassment

Harassing conduct because of sex by landlords, owners, and property managers. It’s illegal — you don’t have to endure it to keep your home, and we hold them accountable.

📣

Retaliation

A rent hike, eviction notice, or sudden harassment right after you complained, called an inspector, or got a lawyer? Retaliation is illegal in California — and it strengthens your case.

⚖️

Housing discrimination

Turned away or treated differently because of race, national origin, family status, source of income, or who you are? That violates the Fair Employment & Housing Act.

Learn more →

Disability rights for tenants

Denied a service animal, an accessible parking spot, or another reasonable accommodation? Disabled tenants have powerful protections under California law — we make landlords honor them.

Our team

Meet your attorneys.

Our attorneys have decades of experience taking on landlords and property owners.

Aanand Mehtani

Trial Attorney

Aanand Mehtani now exclusively represents tenants, employees, and consumers. However, he started his legal career at O’Melveny & Myers – a highly selective litigation powerhouse that has incubated some of America’s most successful lawyers, judges, business leaders, and politicians. While at O’Melveny, Mr. Mehtani worked alongside senior statesmen such as Clinton Administration Secretary of State Warren Christopher, Reagan White House Counsel A.B. Culvahouse Jr., and Biden Administration Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, contributing billable work directly to Secretary Mayorkas’s elite practice.

After leaving O’Melveny, Mr. Mehtani went on to practice litigation at another large international powerhouse which is second to none – the Washington D.C. based Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Akin’s litigation practice is widely considered to be among the best in the United States, if not the absolute best. Working at Akin Gump, Mr. Mehtani drafted complex briefs in cases where hundreds of millions of dollars were in controversy. Such litigation experience at the best Wall Street firms is uncommon and it gives lawyers the ability to communicate at the highest level and provide effective advocacy against anyone.

Mr. Mehtani has litigated high-profile cases, profiled in The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the Hollywood Reporter, among many other publications and legal journals.

Mr. Mehtani has been recognized by the trade publication “Super Lawyers” in Los Angeles Magazine every year since 2019, and was recognized by that same organization as a “Southern California Rising Star” from 2015–2017.

Erin Reisman

Trial Attorney

Erin Reisman represents individuals, not institutions. She earned her J.D. at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 2006, after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley.

In nearly two decades of practice, Ms. Reisman has built a reputation for meticulous preparation and for the discipline that wins cases before they are ever argued. She sees a stable home as the foundation everything else in a person’s life is built on, and she brings that conviction to the firm’s housing practice – along with an attentiveness that leaves clients feeling heard from the very first call.

Daniel A. Reisman

Trial Attorney

Daniel A. Reisman exclusively represents individuals – never corporations – against landlords, employers, and big corporations. He earned his J.D. at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, where he was selected for Law Review, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Over 20 years of practice, Mr. Reisman has tried and resolved cases against institutional defendants and the large firms that represent them, including a $5.25 million verdict in a single housing case. He has been named a Super Lawyer, and he handles habitability, wrongful eviction, harassment, and housing discrimination matters personally, from the first call through trial.

How we work

What every client gets from our team

Only ever on your side

We don't represent landlords or property companies — not ever. There's no conflict, no divided loyalty. Your fight is the only one we're in.

Plain answers, in your language

No legalese and no runaround. We explain your rights and your options simply — in English or Spanish — so you can make a decision you understand.

We carry the cost & the risk

We front the expenses and work on contingency. You pay no attorney's fees unless we win — and in many housing cases, the landlord pays them.

Common questions

What tenants ask us most

No. We work on contingency for tenant cases — the consultation is free, and you pay no attorney's fees unless we recover money for you. In many California housing cases, the law requires the landlord to pay your attorney's fees.

Retaliating against you for asserting your rights — including getting legal help or reporting bad conditions — is illegal in California. If it happens, that retaliation can become part of your case.

Your immigration status does not affect your rights as a tenant, and we keep everything confidential. Owing rent does not give a landlord the right to lock you out, shut off utilities, or ignore dangerous conditions.

Deadlines (called statutes of limitation) vary by claim, and some are short. The sooner you reach out, the more we can do — and the easier it is to preserve evidence like photos, texts, and repair requests.

Anything you have: your lease, photos or videos of conditions, texts or emails with your landlord, repair requests, notices you received, and rent receipts. Don't worry if you're missing some — bring what you have.
